FinVector treats wastewater via inactivation plant from EnviroDTS

FinVector uses a compact inactivation plant from EnviroDTS for the safe treatment of wastewater from its production of gene therapy medicinal products.

In the Finnish town of Kupio, FinVector, a leading current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) manufacturer of virus vector gene therapy products, has built a new, high-tech production plant. The pharmaceuticals company treats 14 cubic metres of production wastewater per day with a thermal inactivation plant from EnviroDTS.

Two alternating 3-cubic-metre sterilisers treat the wastewater by direct injection of steam and cooling via pillow plates. The plant does not require buffer tanks. The organic substances are safely inactivated at 121°C for 20 minutes. The wastewater then passes through a neutralisation process to bring it to the required pH value for discharge into the sewer system.

The plant solution can also be used to treat wastewater containing protein, as the precipitation process during heating via a steam lance occurs at the centre of the steriliser.

The compact EnviroDTS plant was installed quickly. The plant's construction was commissioned in March 2023. The plant was put into operation in December of the same year.
